In Lithuanian, the word “refugee”, from the verb “flee”, has negative associations arising from fear and ignorance. In other languages, the word is associated with providing assistance, security in the event of a disaster.
A "refugee" is a legal status for people seeking refuge from war, persecution and other life-threatening evils in their homeland. After all, no one leaves their native home if all is well.
June 20 as World Refugee Day has been celebrated annually since 2001. However, the realities of refugee life do not end, but continue. Our human solidarity with those who find it harder to live today must continue in the same way. We invite you to get acquainted.
